This beautiful rock is located in the Sheep Rock Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in Central Oregon. There was an immense lightening storm that started some 35 fires in a line across the surrounding mountains. The amount of smoke in the air allowed a beautiful and colorful sunrise that began at 4:30 A.M., all the while deer were traveling down the hillside behind me and within about twenty feet. The location is near the town of Dayvile on Hwy. 26, east of the town of Mitchell by about a 45 minute drive, and west of the town of John Day about 45 miles distant.
